Huvepharma® hosted another well-appreciated seminar for swine veterinarians in the medieval Belgian city of Ghent in October. This practical seminar focused on different approaches to prevent, diagnose, treat or eradicate respiratory infections in pigs.
Ir. Van der Voorst delivered a very interesting presentation on the use of climate control to reduce respiratory infections. The high prevalance and underestimated role of worm infections were then discussed by Prof. Geldhof.
Dr. Vyt gave a detailed presentation on current diagnostic tools, followed by Dr. Sonck who made a clear link between histopathological findings and bacterial or viral pathogens. The correct use of antimicrobial products for the successful treatment of respiratory infections, as well as eradication programmes, was highlighted.
On the second day of the seminar, a practical session took place in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ghent where lung lession scorings were performed, and macroscopic lesions were explained by a pathologist.
