There was a lot of interest in OptiPhos® and its application in aqua feed at the 2019 European Aquaculture Symposium (EAS) event in Berlin. Many leading European feed companies are looking to reduce their reliance on inorganic phosphate sources and maximize the phosphorus already present in the feed but locked into raw materials in the form of phytate.
Similarly, Hostazym® X was identified as key to further reducing reliance on fishmeal in carp feeds. For economic reasons, plant by-product materials which are rich in non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) are being used more and more in aqua diets. But producers do not want any associated loss of growth performance. Hostazym® X can help break down the NSPs in plant material, increasing digestibility and therefore performance.
The EAS 2019 show demonstrated that enzymes in aqua feed are still at an early stage relative to the size of the industry, but the speed of adoption has been increasing rapidly as the benefits of enzyme use are widely demonstrated in the field.
Huvepharma® is now recognized as leading the way in Europe for enzyme development in aquaculture and is identified by key industry players as the only enzyme company currently with multiple solutions for aqua feeds that are supported by EFSA registrations.
